Items I keep on my phone for herd management

One of the most useful things I keep on my phone for herd management is a bookmarked page with a Gestation Calculator from americangoatsociety.com. From the home page look for the education drop down, their gestation calculator is under there. I refer to this calculator when planning my breeding for the next year, verifying my due dates and figuring out when I should be doing pregnancy checks on the does who were bred.

I also keep a free app called Countdown on my phone to basically set reminders for myself like pregnancy due dates, treatment follow ups, anything out of the ordinary you might need to remember. I don't think this was the apps intended purpose but hey. it works. Yes, I am aware most smart phones have a calendar but, if you're anything like me, you've learned to ignore it due to the nonsense notifications it sends.

I used to keep spread sheets to keep track of animal health, treatments and progeny. I would forget to update them, or something would happen to either the file or the computer, and it was also quite time consuming to make the spread sheets and keep them updated. I now keep an app called Livestocked. It is a paid app but it has been a complete game changer in the management of our herd as it allows us to keep record while actively working in the barn, refer back to the info while away from home. and it has shown us some pretty interesting trends with a few of our animals. This app is more tailored to cattle but does cover all major species of livestock.
